Our 5th grade students have spent the past 9 weeks with Officer John Townsend. This is the 3rd year that Officer Townsend has been here teaching the D.A.R.E. Program. The D.A.R.E. Program began in Los Angeles in 1983. It is now taught in all 50 states and around the world. The curriculum teaches students to take the time to think through any situation and consider the consequences for whatever choice they may make. The curriculum: • makes it more likely that youth will resist pressure to use drugs • increases their confidence in their ability to resist pressure to use drugs • increases knowledge about decision making, communication, and relationships • improves targeted skills of decision making, communication, and relationships • improves attitudes toward police.
The D.A.R.E. Vision
“A world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors.”
Thank you Officer Townsend! We appreciate your commitment and the time you spent with our students. It was nice the Rep. Sheila Klinker was able to come and hand out Indiana pins!
Hasta Lasagna! (Don’t get any on ya!)
